I have heard from a friend that Robitussin cough syrup does help in the improvement of ones fertility. I am quite shocked about it and wants to know if this is a fact or some hear says. Is this really true?

Oh really, that is something interesting. I'll try to research on that. That might help me with my fertility issues. Thanks.

I don't think that is true. Robitussin is just for cough problems.

What does a cough syrup has to do with fertility?

Hi there! I have once read an article regarding Robitussin and fertility. Guaifenesin the main ingredient of Robitussin is said to help in fertility because it improves the quality of your cervical mucus. Fertile cervical mucus helps transport sperm from the vagina into the uterus.

Make sense Pinky because the sperm cannot survive long without fertile cervical mucus.

And also this thick or hostile cervical mucus can block sperm from getting past the vagina to where they need to be in order to fertilize the egg.

What is good about Robitussin is that it does not just work on the mucus produced in your lungs, it also helps thin out cervical mucus. And the thinner the mucus is, the better for sperm and may improve your chances of getting pregnant.

Oh, so when we should we usually take Robitussin then?

Ruth - February 19

As far as I know the best time to take Robitussin is around 5 days before you expect to ovulate and also on the day of ovulation.

And what if I am using the ovulation prediction kit? When is the best time that I take Robitussin?

Well if you are using OPK then, just continue taking up to 2 to 3 days after your have had a positive OPK. The recommended dosage is two teaspoons taken orally three times a day.

Actually, taking Robitussin is one way that hormonal birth control prevents pregnancy. It is done by creating an environment with thick cervical mucus, the mucus can effectively create a barrier that keeps sperm from getting past your cervix.

Do not just rely on Robitussin for the improvement of your cervical mucus. There are some other things you can do, one is to avoid lubrication that is not sperm-friendly.

It's hard for me to believe. For me, there is no truth in this. How can one cough syrup improve ones fertility..I don't see the connection or any point at all.

Yes it is very unusual to know that a cough syrup like the Robitussin could have something to do with fertility.

To reiterate what I said before, Robitussin whose main ingredient is guaifenesin aids in fertility because it improves the quality of your cervical mucus. Fertile cervical mucus helps transport sperm from the vagina into the uterus. Sperm cannot survive long without fertile cervical mucus.
