The Specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology

...and those privileged to practice it

More than just a medical and surgical specialty, Obstetrics and Gynecology is an appreciation for life itself.

Dr. DiLeo celebrates this special role by providing to each woman a caring and personable doctor-patient experience dedicated to her complete well-being throughout her remarkable life--from adolescence through child-bearing and into the mature years.

With two offices, one in Mandeville (since 1982) and a new location in Bogalusa (opened June '98), he now furnishes full-time north shore coverage for all of West St. Tammany Parish. Full staff privileges at Lakeview Regional Medical Center and St. Tammany Parish Hospital offer patients state-of-the-art care right here at home.

Gerard M. DiLeo, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. DiLeo, LSU trained and board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, is a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Chief of Staff of Lakeview Regional Medical Center for 1996 and again in 1998, he is also a women's health author for articles in local and regional newspapers and has practiced in the area since 1982. He and his wife Linda have four children.

Dr. DiLeo did his specialty training at the famous public institution at Charity Hospital in New Orleans--allowing him to feel comfortable with both high-risk as well as normal pregnancies. He is available to his patients for all aspects of GYN surgery, from outpatient laser and laparoscopy to major procedures for benign and cancer reasons. Well-woman visits emphasize prevention as well as education. Split evenly between obstetrics (prenatal and birth care) and gynecology (medical and surgical care of women), he considers their work a joyful experience he can share with his patients.

OBSTETRICS

"Having trained at what was formerly called Charity Hospital, this unique and famous facility exposed me to an incredible amount of OB-GYN situations, such that I feel comfortable handling even the most complicated and high-risk pregnancies. But not every pregnancy is high-risk, certainly. I will strive to make every patient comfortable during this time by making sure a patient with even an uncomplicated pregnancy knows the full extent of what is happening and that no questions go unanswered. At my office the visits are a sequential education into the whole pregnancy for her, for her husband, or for concerned family members who may wish to participate. I am enthusiastic about VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean), if a patient so desires. I also feel it is important for my patients to make up their own minds about many aspects of their deliveries. Lamaze, epidural, VBAC, and many other concerns must depend on a cooperative, professional relationship between my patients and me. It is important for me that any new mother and father be happy with this most special event. It is of the utmost importance that I do everything I can to assure a healthy baby and mother."

GYNECOLOGY

"'Female' problems can be extremely personal, and I am proud of my staff in the discreet way they help me practice gynecology. Conferences for any planned surgeries are mandatory so that the patient and her family feel completely comfortable with the type of treatment, any alternatives to surgery, and my recommendations. There are no "rush jobs" in my practice, because to you, you are the most important person there, and I respect that. At my office ALL telephone messages from patients get addressed the SAME DAY. This is a most crucial rule in my practice, because problems change from day to day, even from hour to hour. If you are my patient, you deserve this type of responsiveness from me and from my nurses."

This practice was established in the Mandeville/Covington area in 1982. In 1998 a second Bogalusa location was added for the convenience of my Bogalusa area patients. I  practice the full range of OB and GYN services. Besides normal and high-risk pregnancies, I am also qualified in laser surgery, laparoscopy (including diagnostics and treatment for endometriosis and Laparoscopic hysterectomy), colposcopy for abnormal pap smears, major and minor gynecological surgery, female endocrinology, menopausal and PMS management, infertility, and contraception. I am also trained in the latest techniques which offer alternatives to hysterectomy, including Uterine Balloon Theraby (Thermal Endometrial Ablation). My office is equipped with a hospital-grade ultrasound, and I have fetal monitoring equipment to either monitor a patient and her baby at my offices or even remotely monitor a patient at the hospital via computer modem.

Welcome

"In choosing my practice, you will know that you have made the right choice when you see that my staff and I treat you the way we ourselves would like to be treated. In these times of large medical groups and impersonal "managed" care, this is the first concept to go, and I hold on to this way of practice most tightly. And you can rest assured that this year, you will benefit from this year's state-of-the-art medicine, because you and your family deserve that.

"Welcome to Women's Health Associates, the practice of Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo."
