My friend is so overweight. She's already married for almost 6 years already and still don't get pregnant. She also has 2 sisters who's also obese and like he, they were married for so many years but still childless. Is it true that weight could affect a woman's fertility and that's why it's so hard for them to get pregnant?

That is sooo true. My doctor advised me to have a healthy diet before when I was pregnant, she want's me to reduce my weight because I used to be fat and she told me it's really not good to be overweight during pregnancy.

geraldine: I agree. But I do have friends who are overweight but are pregnant. I can't point an exact explanation on this though but yeah, overweight is one of the factors but I think there are also other factors that stop them from getting pregnant.

I think overweight could really affect a woman's fertility because i had a friend who is really fat and it's been 5years since she got married and until now she has no child yet. It is really a fact that overweight or obese have more difficulty conceiving compared to those who are in their normal body weight.

Obesity is not totally affecting women's fertility because there are obese women who have children. Maybe in some cases this is true also.

I think infertility is within their genes, her sisters don't have too, it is an hereditary case.

Besides causing increased risk of heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes, obesity can also cause biochemistry to gang up on your chances for decent ovulation. If you're significantly overweight, while your ovaries are trying to behave and cycle normally, the steady input of estrone from this other pathway will interfere. A steady supply of estrogen from the peripheral conversion of androstenedione to estrogen will blunt the peaks and valleys of the ovary's function, which ultimately interferes with ovulation and can cause infertility.
