Menopause and Your Attitude
Life is all about perspective. Certainly, there are many things in life that we can't control. Our attitude towards those events, however, is usually in our control. This is true for menopause. While some might look at this as an indication that they are growing old, others will see it as an exciting new stage. Menopause means that you are closing the door on dirty diapers, on being "mommy" all the time, on PMS and terrible cramps, and on living by your monthly cycle. This is a chance for you to embrace change in your life and to use it to your advantage. Here's how.
Reclaim Your Body After Menopause
Menopause means that you can reclaim your body for yourself. You are no longer a slave to the rhythms of your body. You won't have to worry about the timing of that trip to Cancun, and try to figure out if you'll have your period during it. You won't have to think about whether white will be the best color for your friend's party. You won't have to think about your month in terms of the PMS week, the period week and the other two weeks. This creates a great deal of freedom within your body and should allow you to feel mentally free as well.
Enjoy Your Body
In addition, your body should begin to feel much more comfortable as menopause sets in. You should have diminished hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms with time and should be able to enjoy how your body feels. You may feel more relaxed as your hormone levels adjust. Yoga is often a great activity for post menopausal women. It allows you to connect with your body, to relax and to do something liberating and fun for yourself.
Reclaim Your Sexuality
You can experience a great deal more freedom with your sexuality now that you've experienced menopause. Why? You are no longer tied to your cycle or to the moods that they created. You won't have to worry about unplanned pregnancies and can let yourself go during sex. Research has also found that post menopausal women have an easier time reaching orgasm, and that they experience more multiple orgasms. Let yourself enjoy this time and have fun with your partner!
Enjoy Your Independence During Menopause
Menopause is often accompanied closely by more independence. Your children have left, or are leaving the house, for their own adult lives. You'll have more time to explore your own likes, desires and hobbies. You should find yourself with more time for your partner and more time for travel and adventure. Obviously, some people experience empty nest syndrome at this time. Most of this, however, is in your attitude. See this as an opportunity to focus on yourself. How many young mothers have time to focus on themselves? You've earned this chance now that the kids are growing - enjoy it and make the most of it!
This is your adventure. Menopause simply signals a new stage in your life, and one that should afford you a chance for growth, independence, sexual exploration and adventure. Enjoy this time with a positive attitude - you never know what awaits you!
